LinkedIn Scams and How to Protect Yourself in 2025: Hard Lessons from Europe

10/23/2025

Fighting Back: Pig Butchering & Rising Scams on LinkedIn - My Insights as a Speaker

The Digital Butchery: We are Exposing Online Scams
While I’ve been consistently blogging in Hungarian over the years—sharing my insights on LinkedIn strategies, personal branding, and digital trust—this is my first post in English in quite some time.

During this period, I’ve observed a dramatic escalation in LinkedIn scams targeting professionals worldwide. From sophisticated pig butchering schemes to elaborate phishing attacks, the risks are no longer reserved for the careless—they can reach any of us.

My recent work has brought me in close contact with these issues, collecting real-world examples and lessons from both victims and experts across Europe. The biggest lesson: vigilance and knowledge are your best defenses.

In this post, I’m sharing the most important signs of LinkedIn scams in 2025, practical ways to protect your identity, and my perspective as a European specialist and keynote speaker in this field.  I’ll also be posting regular updates like this in English — so if you want key learnings and speaking event info in your inbox, stay tuned here (the Hungarian Substack newsletter is not translated, but you’ll find fresh English content on this blog from now on).

Defending Against LinkedIn Scams – The Southeast Asian "Businesswoman" Approach

Have you ever received messages on LinkedIn from "Southeast Asian businesswomen"* offering lucrative partnerships? These scams are run by well-organized international networks.

Their playbook typically includes:
  • Algorithm excuse – “LinkedIn’s algorithm suggested your profile…”
  • Business proposal, followed by a suggestion for a personal meeting
  • Moving the conversation to WhatsApp – this is the biggest red flag!

The core of the "pig butchering" scam:
  • Long-term trust building, with the final goal: investment (often crypto) fraud
  • LinkedIn is ideal terrain: professional setting, detailed career info, business context

How to protect yourself:
  • Report and block suspicious profiles!
  • Never share your WhatsApp number with strangers!
  • Immediately delete the conversation, but keep the email notification!

This is a global phenomenon—with American, European, and Asian examples. Authentic education on this topic is highly valuable for English-speaking readers!

* The "Southeast Asian Businesswoman" scam isn't necessarily run from Southeast Asia; those fraudsters could actually be operating out of other parts of the world. However, the model was a huge hit, so the new scammers are just copying that successful scam.

6 Steps How to Search, Find and Apply for Jobs on Linkedin - Unlock the wonders of Free Linkedin with Tamás Bánki since 2011

Linkedin is a great platform for professionals to connect, network and find job opportunities. In this article, we'll go through the 6 steps of how to find, search and apply for jobs on Linkedin.

  1. Create your Linkedin profile
The first step is to create or open your Linkedin profile. This is your professional online presence and it's important to have a well-crafted profile that showcases your skills, experience, and interests.

  2. Keyword, Location, or Company
Once you're on your Linkedin profile, you can search for jobs in your desired field. You can search by keyword, location, or company.

  3. Filter
To narrow down your search results, you can filter by date posted and experience level. This will help you find the most relevant job opportunities for you.

  4. "Easy Apply"
One of the best features of Linkedin is the "Easy Apply" feature. This allows you to apply to jobs quickly and easily without having to leave the Linkedin platform.

  5. Jobs with a low number of applicants
Look for jobs with a low number of applicants: This is a great tip for finding job opportunities that may not be as competitive. You'll be more likely to get an interview if there are fewer applicants.

  6. Be aware
Be aware that some jobs may be posted as "posts" instead of "jobs": Some companies may post job opportunities as "posts" rather than "jobs." Be sure to check both areas when searching for job opportunities.

By following these steps, you'll be well on your way to finding the perfect job opportunity on Linkedin. Remember to be persistent, and don't be afraid to apply to multiple jobs. With a well-crafted profile and a targeted job search, you're sure to find the perfect job opportunity.

Deeper

Linkedin  offers a wide range of features that can help job seekers find the perfect opportunity.

The first step is to make sure you have a strong and well-crafted Linkedin profile.

  • Have 50 connections (a minimum)
  • Have professional Profile image
  • Have a unique Headline (add your phone number) [220 characters, the first 32 is the most important(!)]
  • Have a unique Background image, don't use stock photo!
  • Use the About section as your Cover letter on steroids [2600 characters]*

Your profile is your professional online presence and it is essential to have a profile that showcases your skills, experience, and interests. Once your profile is set, you can start searching for jobs by using keywords, location, or company.

To narrow down your search results and find the most relevant job opportunities for you, you can filter by date posted and experience level. One of the best features of Linkedin is the "Easy Apply" option which allows you to apply to jobs quickly and easily without having to leave the Linkedin platform.

Follow the Companies you would like to work with. Be an active member. Start Commenting on Company posts, to make you a visible user.

A.   Invoice Number - The unique number assigned to each invoice
B.   Balance Due - The outstanding amount due on your invoice

D.   Due Date - The date your invoice payment is due. Invoice date will be the same as the due date when payment terms are immediate.
E.   Bill to - The party responsible for payment
F.   Ship to - The party who is receiving services from LinkedIn
G.   Invoice Date - The date the invoice is generated
H.   Order # - The unique number assigned to your order

T.   Billing Schedule Summary – Billing schedule for past, current, and future invoices on the contract. The total amount of the billing schedule equals your contract value.

Rate per unit

  1. Sometimes, you may notice a difference in the rate per unit between your previous invoice or order form and your current one. In these cases, you've been billed on a prorated basis. Prorated billing happens when:
  2. A contract is billed annually upfront, but the length isn't for a full year.
  3. A contract is billed quarterly, but one of the periods doesn't cover a full quarter.

Note: Proration will be adjusted on the first invoice of your contract.

Finding your purchase details

Details of the products purchased, quantity and contract duration can be found on your completed, signed order form.

Add-on purchases

Add-ons are optional recurring purchases in addition to your contract.
If you purchase an add-on in the middle of your primary contract’s billing cycle, you'll be charged a prorated amount for the add-on purchase.
